OpenCms installation overview

This section includes the installation details for the server and clients. If you encounter problems during the setup you can't solve by yourself, you can post your problem to the OpenCms mailing list.

If you are new to OpenCms, here's a tip on how to proceed:

  1. Have a look at the Server installation  page to get an impression of the OpenCms setup. To complete the picture, check out the Client setup guide.
  2. Now you know what you are up to. If this seems too complex, maybe you should contact one of the professional OpenCms solution providers for help.
  3. Download the latest major release of OpenCms.
  4. Download the latest documentation.
  5. Install OpenCms according to the Server installation page.
  6. Before logging in to the OpenCms workplace, configure your browser(s) as described in the Client setup guide.
  7. Congratulations, you now have a running OpenCms website containing some demo pages and contents. You should have a look at the modules download page to obtain additional demo templates or OpenCms enhancements.
  8. Start developing your own site with OpenCms.
  9. If you develop a nice module, template or other enhancement to the system, check out the How to contribute page to learn how you can share your development with the OpenCms community.
