OpenCms 8.5.1 is an update which improves the content editor functionality as well as the Solr integration. This version also fixes a lot of issues that persisted in the 8.5.0 release.

Main improvements in OpenCms 8.5.1

The content editor shows preview thumbnails for selected images.
The content editor displays resource information like e.g. "Title" for selected files.
The performance of the content editor has been improved significantly.
The workplace property dialog has been replaced with the advanced HTML 5 dialog from the page editor.
The Solr integration provides better performance, configurability and multi-language handling.

Please note: This version of OpenCms requires Java 6 because of library dependencies.

Who should use this OpenCms 8.5.1 distribution download?

Use this download to install the new version 8.5.1 of OpenCms from scratch. We recommend everyone who uses OpenCms to update to the 8.5.1 release. OpenCms 8.5.1 is fully backward compatible to all prior 8.x and 7.x versions. Templates and other OpenCms developed code these versions should work "out of the box" with version 8.5.1.

If you want to upgrade an existing OpenCms 8.5.0, 8.0.x, 7.5.x, 7.0.x or 6.x version, please use the OpenCms 8.5.1 upgrade Wizard download also available from this website.

Please note: The *.jar files in this binary distribution have been compiled for Java 6.

This OpenCms 8 update wizard allows an almost automatic update to version 8.5.1 from the following previous OpenCms versions:

8.5.0
8.0.0 - 8.0.4
7.5.0 - 7.5.4
7.0.0 - 7.0.5
6.2.0 - 6.2.3
6.0.0 - 6.0.4

This version will only work for MySQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL based OpenCms installations.

Please have a look at the readme.txt file in the downloaded zip archive for details about the upgrade process. Before you use the upgrade wizard, please make a full backup of your OpenCms installation.

Who should use this 8.5.1 upgrade download?

Use this download to update from an existing OpenCms 8.5.0, 8.0.x, 7.5.x, 7.0.x or 6.x installation. For a new, fresh installation of OpenCms 8.5.1, use the full distribution version.

This version of OpenCms requires Java 6 because of library dependencies. In case you still run OpenCms on Java 5, you need to update your JVM first.

Please note: This update wizard is not intended to be used for any non-stable (beta, GIT based) versions of OpenCms.

The Alkacon OpenCms Add-On Module Package (also called OAMP) is a set of free, open source extension modules for OpenCms. Alkacon OAMP adds front-end related features to OpenCms that may be useful in case special functionalities are required.

The Alkacon OAMP modules are made available free of charge as open source from Alkacon Software GmbH, the company also responsible for most of the development of the open source core OpenCms system.

The Alkacon OAMP modules are installed on a standard OpenCms system. The source code for the OAMP modules is available in the public OpenCms CVS tree.

OpenCms 7.0.5 Java 1.4 compatibility package

The OpenCms 7.0.5 Java 1.4 compatibility package is needed for OpenCms installations running with Java 1.4 versions. It contains the OpenCms core *.jar files compiled for Java 1.4.

This is an additional download only required for Java 1.4 systems. You also need to download the full 7.0.5 Distribution to install OpenCms.
