NorthPoint Solutions has worked with the number one Children's Hospital in the US. The goal was to create an enterprise architecture to support all media files. The hospital has 10 gigabytes of assets that needed to be shared across multiple instances of OpenCms outside of the database for performance reasons.
To meet these criteria, we developed the File System Module for OpenCms.
The purpose of this module is to decrease the amount of overhead associated with storing binary assets in the virtual file system (VFS). The module allows OpenCms users to upload binary assets to the real file system (RFS) through an HTML interface, and provide a reference to those binary assets by dynamically creating OpenCms content type. Also included in this module is a search implementation of the binary assets through the reference object in OpenCms. Users can search the VFS and the search results will display a path to each binary asset's location in the RFS.
The presentation covered the specific details of the module, how it can be successfully implemented at many organizations (especially those with enterprise architectures), and why this would be an important tool for developers to consider for many projects.
Apr 9, 2024 - OpenCms 17 gives content managers the new app "Date search" to find content that has been changed in a certain time range. The "Websites" app allows to easily export the content of a complete site for archiving. An option has been added to hide "sensitive" content in the Offline project. The default Mercury template has been further improved, e.g. with SEO optimized job postings, a "spacer" function and marker clusters for maps. OpenCms 17 has also been tested and certified using Java 17 LTS and 21 LTS.
