OpenCms Features Version 5 and earlier

Here are some of the major features of OpenCms which were introduced with version 5 or earlier OpenCms releases.

Have a look at the following feature descriptions

  • The Explorer view of OpenCms

The Explorer view is designed like common file managers and shows the contents of the website. It provides all functions for editors to work on the website.
  • Integrated WYSIWYG editor

Editing unstructured page contents is easy with OpenCms by using the built-in WYSIWYG editor. It is similar to popular office applications and requires no HTML knowledge.
  • Previewing of modified content

Preview modified page contents directly from the editor by clicking on the "Preview" button without leaving the editor.
  • Integrated Offline / Online workflow

The project mechanism of OpenCms provides an integrated workflow environment with offline "staging" and online "live" systems on the same server.
  • Meta information (properties)

Attach various kinds of meta information (known as "properties") to each resource in the virtual file system. Use the integrated dialogs to set the title and navigation properties or for more advanced functionality.
  • The Administration view of OpenCms

Switch to the Administration view to perform advanced tasks like manage accounts, configure search indexes and many more.
  • Module Management of OpenCms

Use the integrated module mechanism of OpenCms that allows convenient bundling of contents or functionality for deployment on other machines.
  • JSP integration in OpenCms

The JSP integration in OpenCms allows easy and standards based creation of dynamic functionality for templates, dynamic forms and other use cases.
  • Static export

Use the highly configurable static export feature to improve performance or to create a full static copy of a website.
