OpenCms allows to attach various kinds of meta information (known as "properties") to each resource in the virtual file system. This meta information can be used to store the title, keywords and description of a resource as well as more advanced, definable settings to be used in a template.
Meta information can be inherited to subresources if set on folders, and the inherited value can be overwritten if required.
OpenCms provides different dialogs to set the properties: a simplified dialog showing a subset of often used meta information is in most cases sufficient for content editors. The properties which are visible on this simplified dialog are configurable for each resource type in the OpenCms configuration, so it is possible to show different properties for HTML page files and binary files.

The advanced property dialog allows the modification of all properties that are available in OpenCms.
If needed, new properties can be defined to be used in a template.
